  • Inside Wireman (Electrical) Apprenticeship: Comprehensive training in electrical systems installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Graduates are well-prepared for roles as Inside Wiremen, Residential Wiremen, and more.
  • Sound and Telecommunications Apprenticeship: Focused on low-voltage systems, including sound, data, and video installations. Ideal for those pursuing careers as Sound and Telecommunications Technicians.

CAREERS

INSIDE WIREMAN (ELECTRICAL) APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Program Overview:

  • Duration: 5 years
  • Accreditation: Approved by the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards and the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship.
  • Training: 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with various contractors and 1,020 hours of classroom instruction.

On-the-Job Training:

  • Experience: Work with Journeyman Wiremen, rotating annually to gain diverse electrical skills.
  • Placement: Electrical Training Institute handles contractor assignments.

Classroom Instruction:

  • First 3 Years: Attend classes twice a week (lecture and hands-on practice). Pass assessments to advance.
  • Last 2 Years: Specialized courses such as Electrical Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP), California Advanced Lighting Control Training Program (CALCTP), Energy Storage and Microgrid Training Certification (ESAMTAC), and Project Supervision.

Certification:

  • Completion: Receive a 'Certificate of Achievement – Electrician' from Palomar Community College, completion certificate from the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards and the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship.

INSIDE WIREMAN CAREER DESCRIPTION:

Inside Wireman Responsibilities:

  1. Installing and Maintaining Electrical Systems:
    • Install and connect electrical equipment such as lighting, receptacles, motors, fire alarm systems, and power-generating green technology systems.
    • Perform maintenance, retrofitting, demolition, and temporary installations.
    • Handle any system that generates, transmits, transforms, or utilizes electrical energy or control.
  2. Installing Conduit, Raceway, and Underground Systems:
    • Install conduit systems, raceway systems, and underground systems as required for electrical projects.
  3. Planning and Initiating Projects:
    • Establish temporary power during construction.
    • Manage power distribution within projects.
    • Design and implement grounding systems.
  4. Troubleshooting and Repairing Electrical Systems:
    • Repair old wiring and troubleshoot electrical systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  5. Performing Electrical Work:
    • Conduct all electrical work on de-energized and energized electrical conductors as a qualified electrical worker.

SOUND & TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN – APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Program Overview:

  • Duration: 4 years
  • Accreditation: Approved by the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards and the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship.
  • Training: 6,400 hours of on-the-job training with various contractors and 800 hours of classroom instruction.

On-the-Job Training:

  • Experience: Work under journeyman sound electricians, rotating contractors annually to gain diverse experience.
  • Placement: Managed by the Electrical Training Institute.

Classroom Instruction:

  • Schedule: Two evenings per week (one night for lectures, one night for hands-on practice). Competency assessments required to pass.

Certification:

  • Completion: ‘Certificate of Achievement – Sound and Communication System Installer’ from Palomar Community College, completion certificate from the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards and the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship.

SOUND TECHNICIAN CAREER DESCRIPTION

Sound and Telecommunications Technician Responsibilities:

  1. Installation and Setup:
    • Install and configure audio, video, and multimedia systems, including home theaters, public address systems, and corporate A/V setups.
    • Set up and maintain telecommunications systems such as telephone lines, internet connections, local area networks (LANs), and intercoms.
    • Install life safety systems, including access control, burglar and fire alarms, and video surveillance systems.
  2. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Perform regular maintenance checks on installed systems to ensure optimal performance.
    • Diagnose and repair issues related to low-voltage wiring and electronic components.
    • Calibrate and adjust system settings for peak performance, including audio levels, video quality, and network configurations.
  3. System Design and Integration:
    • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and engineers to design custom sound and telecommunications systems tailored to specific needs.
    • Integrate various systems to work seamlessly together, such as linking a security system with lighting control or connecting audio-visual equipment with network systems.
    • Ensure that all systems comply with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.

VETERANS

The Electrical Training Institute programs are approved for V.A. benefits. Honorably discharged applicants qualify for a guaranteed interview, no matter their aptitude test score.

Even without related training, you are still an ideal candidate for our apprenticeship programs. Applicants with military experience have the drive, commitment and work ethic to excel in our programs, so you are encouraged to apply regardless of your military background.

Application Requirements For Helmets To Hardhat Applicants For Inside Wireman and Telecommunications programs

Honorably discharged military veterans qualify for a guaranteed interview (must apply within five (5) years from the discharge date with your DD-214).

Veteran applicants are still required to sit for an aptitude exam, but their results will not affect their eligibility for interview.

Applicants who have served overseas and /or lived on base for a minimum of two (2) years prior to application will have any existing restriction waived.

At time of application, please submit your DD-214 along with an officially-sealed high school transcript and all other required documents as stated in the regular application process page of this website.
